I got my scooters from the LAPD OPG auction held at the Wilshire Divisions primary tow yard, called S&J Wilshire Tow.
I heard that they dont have many scooters anymore though as the police have stopped impounding them.
Apparently, it costs more to have the thing towed (and they need to tow it, they cant just take it there themselves) than they re-coupe from selling it at auction. Makes sense I suppose. Well, if anyone is interested I have one m365 and one es2 to sell. Ill let em go for a good price and they were 100% legally acquired. Hit me up....
Do you have the receipt from the impound ?

Yes I do. But if youre asking in interest of purchasing one of the two spare scooters I had, im afraid you just missed the opportunity. I sold the M365 earlier today and decided to donate the ES2 to a friend who was also at the impound recently....but he was there to get his car back. I just found out he picked up a DUI last friday night. He's gonna need that scooter for awhile. Funny thing is...he always thought they were stupid. Until he needed one. Haha.

Dont drink and drive or you might find yourself an unwilling scooter commuter.

In the beginning, I thought about buying on Amazon, there is a good choice, but when I told a friend about what I plan to buy, he gave contracts to his friend who has a fantastic machine in good condition. I could not resist. :ugeek:

A couple scrapyards around Nashville TN sell parts and nearly complete like new units. They say they sell a lot of the Zero batteries to off grid solar hipsters, since they have a large capacity and are shaped like bricks so they stack very well.

Go to a few local scrapyards and see what they got. You won't go far with a phone call, they like face to face.

Local sherriff auctions sometimes sell them and impound lots. It's easy to find them laying around in the hood, with dead batteries that are off Birds radar. If the red light is out, that means no network connection, which means bird or the chargers can't find it, and it will just rot until someone throws it away. I think it's better to save it from the landfill, and put it to good use. The sheep can talk about rules all they want, but unless they never jaywalk or exceed the speed limit their just being hypocritical. Do you care about Chinese investors losing money? I certainly don't. That said, I would only buy scooters from people who claim they acquired them legally. Who am I to call him a liar, and I could care less if he shows me a receipt. You may be concerned however with all the recent press about Bird prosecuting scooter thieves.

Just kidding, they pursue nobody. They're too busy losing millions while they try to dupe more would-be investors in this unsustainable brief scooter "bubble". I hope venture capitalists start leaving flat screen TV's and power tools on the sidewalks. I could also use a new riding mower..... 8-)

I'm pretty sure most people get theirs from the ol' yeet and skeet method and say that they're from auction but if you really want one that "legit" call your local police impound station (if your city has birds) and ask them what they do with them. Chances are they will auction them off but it is very different depending on your city.

OR

You could go to craigslist/FB marketplace/OfferUp and look for scooters that "claim" to have been purchased from auction and have faith that people are morally good and DIDN'T steal them.

I'm pretty sure that auctions are more expensive but if you want that peace of mind then go for it.

Actually even if the battery is dead there is still a chance that the scooter can be tracked. If the scooter has a black box on the top of it, it contains a SEPARATE battery for a SIM card that lasts a while. Theoretically, if the regular battery is drained completely for long enough the separate smaller battery will eventually go out too, but it is hard to tell when.

The only way to FOR SURE take a bird off the map is to remove the 6 t8 torx screws off the top and pry off the SIM card on the underside of the circuit board with a flathead screwdriver. This stops the tracking and can be done in a few minutes if you know what you're doing. There is a video on youtube explaining the process, but he kind of skims over the SIM card.

The SIM card holder can be opened and closed with bare hands. No need to destroy it with a screwdriver.

hello there, got my lime of the non-foldable sj2.5 subspecia yesternight after it was thrown in my recyclables bin a fortnight ago*(which sits on private property), i've sent a detailed message to lime asking them to come get it in the next two weeks or i will dispose of it and, surprise surprise, nobody came to retrieve it so i disposed of it by removing that squealing green box and the SIM card inside (broke the card holder as the SIM was glued to it :? ) and am now slowly starting to explore its innards more thoroughly.

looks like a fun little machine though.

i'm not in the US of A so please don't throw US laws at me, they do not apply here and thus the legality of my ownership is total. thank you y'all and thanks lime! ;)

* i don't even know how it got here in the first place being that the closest official "lime availability zone" is more than fifty kilometers away and the battery wasn't even drained.
